Quizzes
A quiz portal gets customers online by answering a few questions instead of paying. It suits sponsored or community WiFi, such as a church, a school, a campaign or a health programme, where the goal is to share a message or learn what your community thinks. Customers who pass earn connect time on a reward package.
Quizzes have three pages under Sales & Promos, and their settings live on the hotspot portal itself.

Set up a quiz portal
Section titled “Set up a quiz portal”The quiz is configured on a hotspot configuration of the quiz type (see Hotspot for how configurations and packages work). In its quiz settings:
- Turn on Ask customers a quiz to connect.
- Choose a Theme, or click Create a new theme. A theme is the subject your questions are about. Describe it as you would to a person, for example “Basic road safety for pedestrians and boda riders in Nairobi”.
- Choose a Reward package. Create a hotspot package marked earned by passing a quiz and leave it disabled, so it can only be earned, not bought.
- Set Questions per attempt, Pass mark (%) and Connect time for a pass (seconds). Scores round down, so 60% means three out of five.
- Set Attempts per customer per day and Wait after a fail (minutes), and choose whether to Let them try again after failing and Shuffle the answer order.
- Click Save quiz settings.

Section titled “Approve questions”Questions written from your theme arrive on Quiz questions as drafts. Nothing is asked until you approve it. Each question shows in full, with every option and which one is marked correct.
- Approve a question to make it live.
- Reject a question you don’t want.
- Stop asking this to retire a question that is already live.
- Approve all approves every question on the page. Only do this if you have read them; they are published under your name.
Write picture questions
Section titled “Write picture questions”On Picture questions, click New Question:
- Choose a Theme.
- Write the question, for example “Select the drink you like”.
- Under Scoring, choose:
- No wrong answer (engagement): any choice connects the customer, and you see what they picked.
- Has right answers (assessed): you mark the correct answer(s), and customers must pick correctly to connect.
- Add the Choices, each with a picture and/or a label, plus a short description of the picture for anyone whose image doesn’t load.
- Optionally use Ask this only on to limit it to certain days and times.
- Click Save Question. You see “Question saved and live”.
Click Retire to stop asking a picture question.
Read the results
Section titled “Read the results”Quiz Results shows Attempts, Passed, Pass rate and Got online, then:
- What your customers chose: a tally of answers to engagement questions, which is the insight you were asking for.
- How the real questions did: pass rates per assessed question.
The page warns you if almost everyone passes (the questions may be too easy to act as a filter) or almost nobody does (customers are bouncing off; read the questions).
