PPPoE packages

A PPPoE package is a plan you sell: a download and upload speed, a price, and how long one payment lasts. Every PPPoE customer is on one package. Static (fixed-IP) customers are billed on PPPoE packages too, so the same list serves Statics.

You manage packages from Services → PPPoEs → Packages (/dashboard/pppoes/packages). The PPPoE → Packages menu shows the same list read-only.

  1. Go to Services → PPPoEs and click the Packages card.
  2. Click the + button next to Export CSV. The Create a new Package dialog opens.
  3. Fill in the basics:
    • Package Name, for example Home 10Mbps.
    • Download Speed (Mbps) and Upload Speed (Mbps).
    • Expires After (minutes, hours, days, weeks or months) and Expires After Value. For a monthly plan choose months and 1.
    • Price.
  4. Optionally set burst, Hide from landing page, Daily FUP and Expiry Notifications (see below).
  5. Save. You’ll see “PPPoE package created successfully”.

Burst lets a customer go faster than the package speed for short spells, as long as their average use stays low. Set it separately for download and upload:

Field Meaning
Limit (Mbps) The top speed during a burst. Must be higher than the package speed.
Threshold (Mbps) Burst is allowed while the average stays below this. Must be lower than the package speed. Blank uses 75% of the package speed.
Time (sec) The window used to work out the average (not how long the burst lasts). Blank uses 16 seconds.

Example from the form: on a 10 Mbps package with limit 20M, threshold 8M and time 16s, a user whose average over the last 16 seconds is below 8 Mbps is boosted to 20 Mbps, and drops back to 10 Mbps once their average reaches 8 Mbps.

The package is still sold, but isn’t listed on your landing page.

Turn on Enable daily FUP to slow a customer down for the rest of the day once they have used a set amount of data:

  • Daily data limit (GB): how much a customer can use at full speed each day.
  • Reduced speed (% of package speed): the speed after the limit, as a share of the package speed.

Usage resets at the start of the next day. On a customer’s page, Reset Daily FUP clears today’s usage and restores full speed straight away.

Pick when customers get an SMS about their subscription ending: When Expired, or a set time before, from 2 minutes before expiry up to 1 week before expiry. Only the options that make sense for the package length are shown. Sending also depends on your SMS settings and templates in Communication.

Once a package exists, open it to edit it. The edit form adds:

  • FUP Policy: rules that slow customers who use data much faster than expected over the package period.
  • Customize: lets customers buy a custom quantity with unit prices and discount tiers.
  • Speed override: shape this package’s sessions at a different speed from the one it is sold at. Leave both blank to use the package speed.

Click a package in the list to open it. From here you can:

  • Edit and save the package (“PPPoE package updated successfully”).
  • View customers (the people icon) and View payments (the banknotes icon) for this package.
  • See the package’s customers in a table at the bottom.
  • Delete package (the bin icon).
  • One customer: open their page and use Package. See Customers.
  • Many customers: use Assign package in Bulk actions.
  • Customers can also choose their own next package from self-service if you allow it under PPPoE Authentication Policies. See Router setup.
  • Export the package list with Export CSV before big price changes, as a record.
  • Editing a package’s speed affects customers when they next connect. Use Reset Conn. on a customer, or Reset connection in bulk, to apply it straight away.
